Third Doll - Sera (Adopted)

Click HERE for more photos of Sera in a slide show.

I started Sera a few days ago. I work on her skin for 3 days, taking my time now. Sera is the first other brand that I do. I did 2 Secrist dolls so far. Sera is from Bountiful Baby, she is very soft, and her color is peach. I have to get used to color it, it absorb color easier than Secrist dolls, so I kinda had to add a few more layers to fix the previous that were a bit too strong. I'm pretty happy, I didn't plan this but since I'm not used to the doll kit, she turned to have peaches and cream complexion. I like it, but I found out that I prefer to do a lighter color doll kit like Secrist. If Secrist dolls are not hard, I would love to keep doing them. It's a pain to root those kits. Speaking of rooting, I bought a very good rooting tutorial and my skill is improving so much. Thank you Danielle!

Sera was adopted on March 28th, 2009. She lives in UK now with her new mommy.

  5. I will order more Sera and maybe Sam & Lucy, not sure yet, also interested in Aubrey. I just ordered a Kylin too, I'm still afraid with the open eyed ones cause of the eyelashes, but I guess I have to learn or I'll never get it. LOL.

  6. I think eyelashes and opened eyes are easier than open mouths... I find it hard to get the tongue color right... and I'm really bad at painting eyebrows.... baby sam is cute, I only have the sera head, I bought to practice on and she was really cute.. but I want the chunkier ones honey and sugar... :D
Do you buy kits on different websites? So far I have only tried out BB's and I love their vinyl.. but I'm thinking about trying a different supplier, have a nice day :)

  7. I just bought Kylin kits, it's in the mail right now I can't wait. I'll let you know the differences. So far I like Bountiful cause they are a breeze to root and the price is right. Definitely won't buy Secrist anymore unless they make softer kits. I also plan to buy the European kits, I'm so in love with Kim Wettering's Sarah, and maybe one of Adrie Stoete's kit. I better start selling these babies if I want to be able to buy my next ones. LOL. This is exciting tho, eh?

  8. do you mean the kylin kits by Laura Tuzio-Ross? Because those are adorable, I've found this Dutch internet store where they sell a lot of kits! but it's really hard to pick just a couple I want at least 5 of them... for the moment I'm sticking to BB kits, I want to buy a few kits from the "little dream collection"

I only hope the vinyl is soft enough... anyways, is your doll on ebay now? :) I have never used ebay... so I don't know if I'm going to list my babies there, I've heard the fees are a little expensive and they make you use paypal.. I've been hearing a lot of bad stories about PP so.. I think I'm going to list mine in european sites, but I want to have a couple before I list them. :)

How do you root your babies? do you start from the front or do you start rooting the swirl? I have only rooted one head so I have no special techniques... I've heard you are supposed to root from the hairline and to the back... I always get nervous when I'm going to root because I don't know if I'm doing it the right way...
Oh mine.. this was a loooong comment :-D

  9. Yes, that gorgeous Kylin. I can't wait! Me too, I have so much in my list! No dealer for good kit from Canada, so I have to buy from US, and the shipping is crazy, so I have to ship them to my cousin's address and he'll bring them to Canada for me, I've been bugging him a lot lately, so I'm waiting for my Kylin (she is shipped direct to me) and will make my order after she is almost done I guess.

For rooting I start from the outside in, I start from the middle on my first, following the instruction on the basic dvd, but I find it better to do it from the outside in. Rooting is the most difficult for me too, so I guess it's normal. But we have to master it, right?

I'm used to Ebay selling my glass beads. And I never had problems. Problems coming from bad ebayers (Sellers or Buyers), and I always check the seller's feedback before I buy, also I think I restricted my buyer too, if they have 5 feedback or less they can't bid on my stuff. Paypal is great for me, I assume people have problems because they got spam in their mail that looks from Paypal but it's not and they gave up their password and bam! Problems! We have to know how to tell which legitimate email from Ebay/Paypal and which are from crooks. Have a nice day, Ella! ^__^

  10. wow, your Sera looks really good :) and the pictures are great! I think I'm going to buy that rooting tutorial :) I've seen that tutorial over at the BB forum, the person that made it was selling it there too. I haven't started rooting my Robin yet, I've been putting it off.. I think I'm going to get that tutorial first.. and I'm going to try out my ultra German needles.. I bought them at this German store.. they are supposed to be good and root only 1-2 hairs.. How's your ebay bidding going? do you have a link? I want Kylin too.. she's really sweet :)
    Have a nice weekend!

  11. Ella, you gotta buy it you won't be dissapointed, I've been doing it improperly and this tut make it all clear. It's worth every penny. And if you do buy can you tell Danielle I sent you? Hee hee..

The link for my Ebay auction is on the top right page of my blog. I got some bids already, keep my fingers crossed. Have a great week end, Ella! XXX

  12. actually I have been doing it as the tutorial said (i bought it) I was afraid I was doing it wrong as all the tuts tell you to root the hair to the front.. I did the "sides" down.. not sure if you know what I mean but anyways, it's a good tutorial.. I'll root my robin soon.. i hope I'll do it tomorrow.. what I know is once I start rooting I won't be able to stop :D
the bidding is going great!... well.. it's none of my business but I think your baby should cost more.. cause she's so cute! :)

  13. Glad you have bought the tutorial! I guess whatever convenient for us right? I'm comfortable with just going from outside to the inside. Happy rooting tomorrow!

Thank you for the sweet comment on my auction, yes I started the bidding low, but no worries, I have reserve price, so if the bidding end up under my reserve price then it's not sold. The low starting price is good to get more hits. Most people on Ebay wait till last day to start bidding. I hope she does well. XXX

  14. hi :) Did you sell your Sera? I'm still rooting my Robin! I started rooting to much hair and I don't want to pluck the hairs I've already rooted... so I have to give her a lot of hair!
Did you get your Kylin? are you working on her right now? I'm still waiting for BB's Sugar and Honey... have a nice weekend :)

  15. I have to relist her Sunday, I think just because I'm new people were on the fence with her. Many watchers tho, so it's a good sign.

I'm rooting my 4th doll too, my last Secrist. Thick hair too. I got my Kylin, baby! I wash it and it's ready but I want to finish the 4th doll first before I work on Kylin. OMG, this is the most excited I am since I started doing this. She's so beautiful even just as kit! We'll keep in touch okay, did you have updates on your blog?

    xxx
